Belleview Florida didn’t get the message announcing Global Warming so it was cold when we arrived for the 13th Annual Orange Blossom Car show. Polly & Jack Townsend have been doing this show nearly single-handedly providing not only music but most of sponsor funds that make this annual Neighborhood Watch Show worth attending. Most of the money goes to support the community watch program. Somehow the Kitchen serving up a hot breakfast and selling cookies and cakes gave us all a place to get warm and renew some friendships.
The show usually draws about 150 cars but only about half of them showed up this year because of the weather and the economy. By noon the sun woke up bringing the temperature up to the mid 50‘s and convertible tops came down and in this case revealed an alive Elvis behind the wheel of this Red Plymouth Fury III. It attracted a lot of attention by singing some nine of his many hits and actually talking to those who stopped by.
There were some outstanding show cars here. This all original 1932 Studebaker’s with a rumble seat is one of only 4 surviving some 70 years. Right down to the straight eight flat head that still runs strong. The owner, Bob Mason is the exact same age as his car. This was my pick for Best of Show and did win a Best in Class Trophy. I couldn’t resist mentioning that the car looks more like new than he does. He laughed.
This street rod was also a Studebaker. . This guy had a robotic singing Elvis that drew a lot of attention. One of the nicest ’68 Chevy Convertibles I’ve seen is pictured here The Owner is David Aten who lives in Wildwood. From what I’m told he’s had this beauty for 7 years.
And between the silent auction, the door prizes and more trophies than cars it seems every one walked away with there money’s worth and had a good time while supporting a very worthwhile cause. This years trophy was a very nice patriotic Eagle with the stripes in a rich black marble base.
