PRIZES
HOW IT WORKSEach submission can be the work of one or more persons. The goal is to create a two—page spread including text and images covering the 2008 Woodward Dream Cruise. The same person can take the pictures, write the story and design the layout or three students can team up — a journalist writing the story, a photographer, and a graphic designer. So, one more time: You can work with a team or on your own — it's your choice. If a team is the winner, each member would get a cap, a t—shirt, etc. You submit a two—page layout of your Woodward Dream Cruise story using this template (control-click on a Mac, right-click on a PC to save the file), photographs you take at the cruise, and the story you write. Send it all (including a PDF would be a great idea) on one CD to: Cruisin’ Style Magazine You can email questions to me at: jay@cruisinstyle.com or call 941-729-6669. You can even email your submission as a PDF if it's 11:55 PM on September 1 and you have the single greatest layout in the history of printing but you better make sure the native files are on their way on a CD as soon as you click Send in that email. Absolutely no submissions will be accepted after September 1. All submissions including written word and photographic images become the property of Cruisin' Style Magazine. CONTEST RULES & INFO
WHAT YOU'LL NEED (or at least need access to)
JUDGES & JUDGING CRITERIAIt's going to be subjective — it's art, what can I tell ya? As I'm sure you've learned already, there are no secrets to pleasing everyone. Just do your best, do what you think looks great. The editorial staff of Cruisin' Style Magazine will give each piece long and thoughtful consideration. We may even get into a fist—fight over it. The Grand Prize Winner(s) will be contacted by phone. Runners Up will be contacted via email (and via USPS when you get your awards & swag). Winners, Runners Up, and Honorable Mentions (that's everyone else who got their submission in on time and met basic requirements like your layout included photographs of cars) will be announced on the website by October 1. DEADLINEThe Woodward Dream Cruise is August 16. Get your submission to us on or before September 1, 2008. That gives you "only" 10-13 days to work because you want to send your entry on or before August 27th to get it to us by September 1st. Getting an awesome opportunity like a double-page spread in a magazine doesn't mean we'll enable you to slack off in your young career by ignoring deadlines. ELIGIBILITY FOR PARTICIPATIONStudent Status. If you make your living as a graphic designer — this contest is not for you. If you are a high school or college student of graphic design, photography, and/or journalism — this contest is for you. If you're between semesters or taking the year off — don't sweat it — as long as you're of high school or college age, you're good. If you've made a little money at the student paper or doing ads for local raves or Dad's Hardware Store — don't sweat it — we just want to make sure this opportunity for portfolio material and credits from a national magazine go to a young person not some schlep who enters the contest like a middle aged guy looking for a date at the high school prom. The whole purpose of this contest is to give someone an awesome chance at kickstarting their career in publishing whether that be in design, writing, and/or photography. So play fair — and yes, we will check up on this. Please send a copy of student IDs or current/recent class schedules with your submission. If you're between semesters or taking the year off, a letter on school stationary from a teacher vouching for your school-agedness will be fine. On the other extreme — if you're a middle-schooler and go to some tech-advanced school and are involved in the student paper or something similar ... far be it from me to keep First Place from some brilliant young artist just because they're not in 9th grade yet! Residency. You do not have to live in Detroit or even Michigan to participate in this contest. If you live in Los Angeles, California and want to hitch-hike to Detroit by all means, do so (safely).
